There was always something strange about the woman. Maybe it was the sudden snapping of blinds, the squealing of tires, the unsettling stare whenever I happened to catch her eye. Maybe it was the way she lingered just steps behind her husband at all times, as if he were a piece of sacred art in need of her protection. Either way, I was more than happy not to have spoken to hear in our 5 years as neighbours. When she waltzed through my front door asking for a cup of coffee, I knew things were about to get weird.
